Bicycles

A bike shortens those long dreary stretches, avoids the footpath throng, and helps you feel a lot more like a local. Hotels – especially budget hotels – often rent out bikes at reasonable rates, or there are the numerous bike-hire outfits in the streets around hotels and tourist spots.

Buses

Oversized and overstuffed buses are the norm in Beijing. There are about 140 bus and trolley routes, which makes navigation rather confusing, especially if one can't see out of the window of the crowded bus. Buses operate from 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. for central/town area routes and from 5:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. for suburbs routes.

Flights

Domestic flights are available at the Capital International Airport.

Car Rental

• General: There are a number of car rental companies to choose from. To hire a car, one has to be above 18 years old and own a valid driving license.
• Operating hours: Can vary, some operate booking 24-hours.
• Average charge: Charges can vary its best to get quotes from a few different companies to find the best value hire.

Subways

The subway is definitely the best way of travelling quickly within Beijing. It can move at up to 70 kilometres (43 miles) per hour. They are less crowded and the fare is RMB 3. The subway operates from 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Taxis

Beijing taxis are multiplying fast, thus finding one is easy. It is advisable to take only metered taxis.
